Howdy

A chance meeting with an old friend today made me return to a nagging question I've been trying not to think about lately:  why do I blog?

I don't want to be self-indulgent.  I know bloggers/writers/people who are like this and desperately want to steer clear of this territory.  I am just a 30 year old mom, raising a kid, taking care of a house, trying to keep things in perspective.  I know reading about someone else's kid is entirely boring (unless you're his grandma or other such relative, hi mom), in most cases at least.  I know I don't have many answers or much advice as far as being a good person or enlightening oneself or even cleaning one's house well.  I am pretty average and am the first person to admit it, and relish in it.  I don't expect everyone to be entertained by what I have to say.

That said I'm glad you're reading, whoever and wherever you are.  I am going to keep telling some stories because I've got them, and someday I will be old and dying and there they will be, my stories written out, sometimes with pictures, for my grandkids and great-grandkids to read and laugh about.  That's why precisely.  Nothing more complicated than that!

So happy fourth, happy summertime, happy lemonade-standing, happy staying up too late, happy staying out after dark to watch for bats, happy eating whatever you've got in the fridge thrown together in a salad for dinner.  It is a great time of year to be alive, with or without air-conditioning (I can attest to both this summer).

My kid is nuts and here's proof:

Want to come walk through my garden?  You're invited, anytime.  It brings me so much joy it might as well be my other kid.  And it is such a work in progress, revealing itself little by little with much care and attention, much like a person might do:

We had visitors in June, my friend Sarah and her little guy Liam and baby girl Amelia.  Just love those guys, and had a wonderful visit.  Too short of course, but then that's how you know it's been a good visit! These two got on really well too:

Also been doing just a little bit of scrapping, and trying my best to enjoy all of it:

Time to get supper together!

Dear Amiee,
You blog because people who know you and love you bask in the light of your creativity. I for one feel enriched after reading your blog. No matter what you're discussing/sharing I want to read it because I hear you say it; your word choice, your inflections, your phrasing. It is you and that is enough. I love to see your pictures of Owen. I totally check out your scrapbook pages. I love the organized randomness of them....or maybe it's the random organization of them. They are SO YOU. You are one of those people I wish I could be, but since I can't be, I'd just like to hang around you and soak you up. THAT'S why you blog. Love you.
